There is a difference between a nation and the actions of a few individuals.

What is happening in South Africa in some places should not be used to define all South Africans. Like many countries facing economic pressure and inequality, tensions can rise — and in those moments, some people act in ways that do not reflect the values of the majority.

But most South Africans are not xenophobic. Most are working, surviving, building, and also standing alongside others who come from different countries and backgrounds. Many communities are made stronger through cooperation, not division. We only have people who have one side of view, about a certain problem, they can't think of their actions might cause a lot of people problems. Now the entire gang going around Joburg city committing barbaric act is all of them UNEMPLOYED? 

When the world sees only the worst moments, it creates a distorted picture. What we need is context, not labels.

We can acknowledge problems without turning them into identity. We can speak about challenges without turning people into stereotypes.

Understanding begins where assumptions end.
