The Johannesburg High Court has ruled that Ngizwe Mchunu must publicly apologise to Julius Malema after statements he made about Malema were found to be defamatory and unlawful.
According to the court ruling, Mchunu made allegations claiming that Malema received money from Nigerian drug dealers and protected undocumented immigrants. The court found that these claims were not supported by evidence.
In addition, the court ordered Mchunu to pay Malema’s legal costs on a punitive scale, which is a more serious legal penalty intended to show the court’s disapproval of the conduct.
Reports also suggest that Mchunu may face further legal action if he continued making similar statements after the initial court order.
